‘Clean water for all remains our first priority’ – Molemole Mayor

The newly sworn in Molemole Municipality Mayor, Edward Paya, says although they are not a water serving authority, they will work with the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) to provide water to the people in their community.

LIMPOPO – Paya made this statement at the Molemole Municipality Council inauguration held at the Mogwadi Community Hall in Mogwadi on Thursday.

Paya said the former council did their best to provide services to the community but he will work even harder to provide a clean audit.

“The Integrated Development Plan (IDP) document will assist us in implementing the outlined projects because it is aligned with the budget.

“In terms of the provision of electricity, almost 100% of our community has access to electricity and we are proud of what we have accomplished so far,” said Paya.

He explained that several residents from communities within their municipality still live in dilapidated shacks and the municipality will ensure that they work hand in hand with the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) to ensure they change the lives of the people in their communities.

“Providing clean drinking water still remains a challenge for our municipality.

“We expect the CDM, a water serving authority, to assist us in this regard,” he said.

The newly elected Municipal Spokesperson, Mpelege Moreroa, said she believes working together as a council will see the municipality flourish.

“Unemployment remains a serious issue within our municipality which leads to corruption and high crime rates.

“Through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) we believe we can lower the unemployment rate,” said Moreroa.

Outgoing mayor, Pauline Makgatho, said completing the projects started by the previous council is very important. “There are a few members of the former council on the new council which we believe will be an advantage in helping new members find their feet and finish what the former council set out to acco-mplish,” said Makgatho.
