Bomb threat at Polokwane Municipality

The Polokwane Civic Centre was evacuated due to an alleged bomb threat earlier today (Thursday) and will be closed for the remainder of the day.
Employees gathered on the corner of Market and Bodenstein streets while emergency personnel, fire brigade and Police officials were searching the building. Streets in the area were also cordoned off to traffic and pedestrians.
Employees claimed that an anonymous caller informed about a bomb in the building.
Acting Municipal Marketing and Communications Manager Matshidiso Mothapo confirmed the threat and said all employees were evacuated and released for the day.
“For the safety of residents and employees we decided to close the building and all employees have been asked to go home. Police and emergency personnel will remain on scene to search the building. Business will resume on Monday,” he said.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto confirmed that the municipality received a phone call about an alleged bomb on the premises and that Police are on the scene to investigate.
