Burned headless body discovered: sister of victim in court for arson

The suspect will be appearing in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on a charge of arson

MOKOPANE – A 33-year-old women was arrested in connection with the burning of Edward Raatji’s parents’ house in Mapela last month.

Mahwelereng Police Spokesperson Const Sello Leso reported: “The 33-year-old suspect that was arrested for arson is the sister of the victim, Nthabiseng Mosomane (16), whose headless burned body was found under a bridge in Mapela on 11 July.”

Raatji and Matsobane Stanley Mohlake were arrested on 10 July after the police followed up on a lead about people selling human body parts near a taxi rank in Polokwane.

The police stopped and searched the suspects’ vehicle in which they found the head of a woman wrapped in a newspaper.

The headless burned body of a woman was discovered after the police followed up on information received.  Constable Leso confirmed that the head found on 10 July belonged to the body found under the bridge, and that the victim has been identified as 16-year-old Nthabiseng.

Raatji’s parents house was set a light on 17 July.

“The 33-year-old sister of Nthabiseng appeared in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court today and the charge of arson. The case was postponed to 14 September,” Leso said.

Raatji and Mohlake will again appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s court on Friday on a charge of murder.
