Limpopo honours top female entrepreneurs in farming sector

The event organised by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development celebrates the strides taken by women in the farming sector.

POLOKWANE- The popular saying Wathint’ abafazi wathint’ imbokodo (You strike a woman, you strike a rock) was mentioned at Bolivia Lodge before the 2016 Female Entrepreneur Awards got underway on Tuesday evening.

The event organised by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development celebrates the strides taken by women in the farming sector.

The acting MEC of Agriculture Seaparo Sekoati had this to say. “There is an advert that always catches my attention. It says If you have eaten today, thank the farmer and that is exactly what we are going to do tonight. Thank the farmer for her unenviable task of feeding the nation,” Sekoati said.

Among the winners on the night, Cecilia Mamabolo from the Capricorn District was the overall winner walking away with the Female Entrepreneur of the year award and the Top entrepreneur in the commercial sector.

A visibly shaken Mamabolo said she was extremely happy. “I don’t know what to say. I want to thank God for everything and the government for making this happen. I have been in the sector for many years and it is nice to see all my hard work pay off,” Mamabolo said. All the provincial winners will go on to represent Limpopo during the national competitions later on in the month.
