Robbery victim identified

No arrests are made yet in the case of armed robbery in which murder accused Rameez Patel’s father Feroz was killed in Platinum Street on Friday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto confirmed the victim’s identity late on Friday afternoon. This morning (Monday) she confirmed that no arrests were made yet.
Feroz was allegedly chased by approximately four armed suspects in two separate vehicles in Platinum Street when they opened fire on him. “He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wall of a nearby business. He died on the scene,” Otto said.
The motive for the killing is still unclear and investigations continue, Otto added.
Allegations are made that the robbers might have been after money. Several shots were fired into the victim’s vehicle.
Polokwane Observer reported on the front page of last week’s edition about the Indian community being targeted by gangs. Several cases of armed robbery on Indian residents have been reported over the past two months.
