Roads blockaded, 2 arrested after body discovered

On Wednesday a special task team composed of Crime Intelligence and Mphephu detectives was established to assist with the investigation of the murder of a young woman whose body was found on Saturday 8 August.

LIMPOPO – “Her body, with one bullet wound in the back, was discovered at Mawoni bushes next to the river, said Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, provincial police spokesperson.

Community members went on a rampage after the discovery, blocking roads in the Mphephu area. “Extra police with the help of the Vha Venda King Tony Mphephu managed to calm the situation.”

A breakthrough came on Thursday 11 August when two suspects aged around 20 were taken in for questioning and eventually linked to the murder case. “One firearm believed to be the murder weapon was recovered.”

Lt Genl Nneke Jimmy Ledwaba thanked the Vha Venda KingMphephu for his role in calming the volatile situation on Saturday. 29 suspects aged between 19 and 40-years-old were arrested for public violence and will still appear in the Dzanani Magistrate Court.

The two suspects will appear before the Dzanani Magistrate Court today (Monday).

Investigations to link the murder suspect to other cases in the area is ongoing concluded Ngoepe.
