120 jobs created through Mzombane village electrification project

The mayor of the Mogalakwena Municipality, Parks Sebatjane recently announced that not only will the residents of Mzombane village soon have electricity, but the electrification project will create a 120 job opportunities for the community

LIMPOPO – This was announced in a meeting attended by the Mzombane committee, Mayor Sebatjane, Ward Cllr Samuel Mathebula and Eskom’s Limpopo Provincial Spokesperson, Dikgabane Rampedi.

During the meeting the six contractors who are appointed for the electrification project of the village was introduced and the committee were re-assured that the project will commence on the 10 August and if everything goes according to plan they will have electricity by March next year.

According to a statement, Rampedi said: “As we have indicated previously the electrification project will be implemented at a cost of R30 million and will benefit over least 2 940 000 households in Mzombane village. The project will create 120 job opportunities whereby a 114 people will be general workers and six will be Community Liaison Officers (CLO’s).”

He further said: “The rates for the general workers will range from R70 to R120 while the CLO’s will be paid R3 500 per month.

All the workers will be paid on the last day of the month and they will be paid according to the work the individual has completed. The CLO positions we will consider people with Gr 12 certificates or above.

The committee will handle the selection criteria of the general workers and CLO’s and the names will be submitted at the municipality.”

Mayor Sebatjane emphasized that since ESKOM and the municipality do not interfere with job selection processes the CLO’s and the general workers must be needy people from Mzombane village so they can be able to put bread on the table.

Mayor Sebatjane advised the committee to consider gender equality during selection processes.

Matsobane Masenya the Chairperson of Mzombane Community Committee, said they are grateful for the electricity and the advances this projects offers.

Masenya thanked the Mayor, Eskom and the Ward Councillor for the role they played in bringing electricity to the community.

In his concluding remarks, Mayor Sebatjane indicated that he will remain humbled by the rare honour he was given, as part of the collective leadership of council, to serve the people of Mogalakwena Municipality and he acknowledged the contribution by all.
