Park upgrades close to completion say muni

The leisure park across Technical High School Tom Naudé has been under construction since last year.

POLOKWANE – The municipality promises the park is close to completion and will offer residents a place where they can spend quality time with family and friends. The park, located in Potgieter Avenue, Polokwane, is expected to showcase a number of exciting features.

Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, says the construction takes place in stages, which is why it takes so much time to complete.

“During the previous financial year we spent around R800 000 on features in the park. This financial year we have allocated R1,3 million to activities and upgrades for the park,” Matshidiso explained.

Over the last year, the municipality has added a new jungle gym, gardens, paving, parking space, and braai facilities among others. The R1,3 million allocated for this financial year will be used to pave the sidewalk and walkways, complete the irrigation system, add additional play equipment and benches, bins and tables and provide demarcation of an additional parking area. An additional Harvey tile shade house at the Parkrun starting point will be erected and indigenous shade trees will be planted.

The Parkrun Polokwane has hosted 5 km runs at the park since early August 2015 and head manager of Parkrun Polokwane, Felicity Roberts, says they are grateful to the municipality for their assistance in installing features which enable them to offer their participants a better Parkrun experience.

“They added paving which greatly reduces the amount of dust produced by participants and spectators, along with beautiful gardens. We invite residents to join us in the Parkrun every Saturday at 08:00. We want to thank the municipality for making the park accessible and beautiful for everyone,” she concluded.
