Sewage plant: raises concerns

The accumulation of sewage is a great health risk for the community and this matter needs to be attended to - Valerie Byliefeldt, Leader of the Nasionale Konserwatiewe Party (NKP)

MOKOPANE – Valerie Byliefeldt, Leader of the Nasionale Konserwatiewe Party (NKP) in Mokopane, shared her concern regarding alleged broken pumps at the sewage plant on Monday with Bosveld.

According to Byliefeldt she has reported the matter at the municipality, but nothing has of yet been done. “The accumulation of sewage is a great health risk for the community and this matter needs to be attended to,” Byliefeldt said.

The Mogalakwena Municipality gave the following comment with regards to the above statement: “The photos that were sent indicate a scum formation and overflow from the manhole. As the municipality we are aware of that and we apologise to the affected residents. This is as a result of damaged electrical components of the Motor Control Centre (MCC). Our electrical department is attending to it. The damage has caused one of the three aerators and a sludge pump not to be functional, but the treatment process can still continue. The overflow of dirt is being cleaned frequently and we are now awaiting our electrical department and a service provider to get to site for the repairs.”
