TRAFFIC ALERT: Road closures on sections of Silicon and R37 roads

Motorists and members of the public are notified about road closures to be implemented from next week due to construction work on the Silicon and R37 road.

POLOKWANE – According to a municipal press release there will be road closures on sections of the Silicon road from 15 August and on the R37 road from the 17 August.

This is due to the construction of new bridge structures and the completion of the Polokwane Eastern Ring Road Phase Two, says municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo.

From 15 August Dorp Street / Silicon Road will be closed and traffic will be diverted as follows:

• Traffic from the city towards the N1 will be redirected towards the left at Webster.

• At the first circle take a 270° right turn onto the newly built deviation road towards the 4-way STOP on the N1.

• Cross the N1 and carry on with newly built deviation road until diverted back on the existing Silicon road.

• Vice versa for traffic on Silicon towards the N1.

The N1 existing 4-way STOPS will be relocated to the newly built deviation road. N1 traffic in both directions will be undisturbed and proceed as normal.

 

From 17 August the R37 (Lebowakgomo road) / Church street will be closed and will traffic will be diverted as follows:

• Traffic from the city towards the N1 will be redirected onto the newly built deviation road on the right and will follow the road towards the traffic signals on the N1.

• Cross the N1 and follow the newly built deviation until diverted back onto the existing R37.

• Vice versa for traffic from the R37 towards the N1.

N1/R37 existing traffic signals will be relocated to newly built deviation road. N1 traffic in both directions will be undisturbed and proceed as normal.

 

The Silicon and R37 roads are expected to be closed for a period of 18 months and should be re-opened by March 2018.

Motorists are advised to follow road signs and any other directives.
