Female SAPS officers take the lead in routine operation

Several arrests were made say the police

POLOKWANE- As part of their women’s day national calendar activities, the South African Police Services together with Metro Police organized a women’s day operation like no other.

This was not only aimed at combating crime in the city but also empowering their female officers. According to Captain Ntobeng Phala of the Limpopo SAPS, they wanted to show the public that women can do what the men can.

“Although there were male officers present, our aim was to show the public that female officers can do exactly what their male counterparts can. We were targeting drugs, stolen property, undocumented foreigners nations and motor vehicles with outstanding fines,” Phala explained.

According to Phala the operation was indeed a successful one with a pleasing outcome. “We managed to make a few arrests, we arrested 14 undocumented foreign nationals and 6 for the possession of dagga. 12 fines were issued to street vendors for transgressions of municipal by-laws, 202 body searches and 9 fines issued to liquor outlets for failing to comply with the liquor act,” Phala continued.

According to the SAPS there will be more routine unannounced operations such as these ones that will take place at a larger stage. Capt Phala says this will continue during the month of August. “We are more than happy to unleash our female officers as they continue to enforce the law. They will clean the streets and make sure that the public know that the female officers work just as hard as the men do,” Phala concluded.
