Hit-and-run victim identified

The family of the unidentified man who was found dead on the side of the road on Sunday, 31 July have come forward.

LIMPOPO – The deceased has been identified as 72-year-old Lucas Phogole. He was on his way from Ga Sekhukhune to visit his family at Ga Molepo area.

According to Const Mosima Makgaba from the Mankweng Police, the deceased was discovered by a passerby in the early hours of Sunday morning along the Ga-Molepo tar road next to the Rampheri Dam.

“He did not have any visible wounds that indicate foul play.

“It is now speculated that he was knocked down by a vehicle which fled the scene after the accident, but investigations are still ongoing,” said Makgaba.

Mankweng police appeal to motorists who use the R71 to keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially between Nobody Mathibaskraal and Boyne.

They urge pedestrians to wear bright, visible clothes at night, and cross the road only when it is safe to do so.
