Police have launched a manhunt after what seems to be yet another attack on the Indian community. The scenario unfolded when a man was shot and killed in an apparent armed robbery in Platinum Street this morning (Friday).
According to a source on the scene the victim was allegedly followed down Platinum Street in the direction of Ladine by two vehicles, one of which is suspected to be a silver Volkswagen Polo or Golf.
“It is not clear yet what transpired but the victim was allegedly shot at and he collided with a precast concrete wall of a nearby business. Allegations are made that the robbers might have been after money. It is also reported that the robbers opened fired on the victim’s vehicle soon after turning into Platinum Street until he crashed into the wall. Several shots were fired into the victim’s vehicle and he died on the scene,” the source said. It could not be confirmed if anything was stolen from the victim’s car.
Westenburg Police Spokesperson Muphure Segobola confirmed that one person was killed. “Police are still on the scene and we cannot elaborate on the situation as yet. I can only confirm that a person has been shot and killed. The motive for the killing is not yet known,” Segobola said.
She could also not reveal the name of the victim.
