Gov officers arrested: 1 still in custody

Two officials from the Department of Home Affairs who were arrested yesterday have appeared before Musina Magistrate’s court today [Friday] on charges of fraud, corruption and extortion.

LIMPOPO – The first suspect, Mafemani Peter Baloyi (36) who is the Giyani Home Affairs assistant manager was arrested in Malamulele on the charges of corruption, fraud and extortion. The project was registered in 2012 where the suspect is accused of soliciting bribe from asylum seekers the time he was a manager at Beitbridge Refugee Centre.

The second suspect, Ntshengedzeni Sharon Mudau (42) who is an immigration officer at Beitbridge Home Affairs is charged with fraud after she allegedly stamped the passport of a suspect who was in police custody.

Baloyi was remanded in custody until 15 August while Mudau received a R2000 bail and will appear again on 28 September.

Capt Matimba Maluleke, a Provincial Spokesperson for the Hawks, said the arrests serve as a deterrent to all corrupt officials out there.
