Amukelani Rikhotso will spend the next six years behind bars after being sentenced by the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Friday for causing the deaths of Collins Chabane, Public Service and Administration Minister and his two protectors in March last year.
The court last month found Rikhotso guilty on charges of culpable homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and inconsiderate driving.
Rikhotso, driving a 12 ton truck, made a U-turn on the N1 South outside Polokwane causing the fatal accident that killed Chabane, Lesiba Sekele and Marene Lentsoane.
He was arrested at the scene of the accident and granted R5 000 bail by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court during his first appearance on 17 March.
