Home Affairs officers arrested for fraud, extortion

Two officials from the Department of Home Affairs were arrested earlier today

LIMPOPO – Two officials from the Department of Home Affairs will appear before the Musina Magistrate’s court tomorrow (Friday) after they were arrested earlier today on charges of fraud.

One of the suspects, a 36-year-old man who is an Assistant Director at Giyani Home Affairs, was arrested at Malamulele for fraud, corruption and extortion.

The man is accused of soliciting bribes from asylum seekers since 2012 when he was the manager at Beitbridge Refugee Centre.

A second suspect, a 42-year-old woman who is an immigration officer at Beitbridge Home Affairs, was arrested for fraud after she allegedly stamped the passport of a suspect who was in police custody.

Capt Matimba Maluleke, a Provincial Spokesperson for the Hawks, said the arrests serve as a deterrent to all corrupt officials out there.
