UPDATE 13 – About an hour ago the results for votes in the local government elections in Limpopo stood at 68,74% for the African National Congress (ANC), 16,62% in favour of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and 8,06% for the Democratic Alliance (DA).
By then the ruling party had secured 392 wards, the EFF two and the DA 20. The PR councillors’ positions for the ANC then stood at 71, the EFF at 59 and the DA at 25.
Earlier the system at the Results Operations Centre (ROC) reportedly was back in operation after having been off-line since around midnight.
In the meantime it was learnt that ruling party supporters are preparing for celebratory parties. The 30-vehicle, ANC-branded convoy of Steven Sefofa, known as the King of Kwasa Kwasa, attracted much attention where it was parked along the main road leading into Polokwane upon arrival from Cape Town this morning. The ANC campaigner said they were awaiting final arrangements regarding the venue for a party in the city later today and would move on to celebrate an ANC victory throughout the weekend elsewhere in the province. Leading the convoy, he was accompanied by more than 30 drivers who filled in for one another in the case of fatigue setting in on the road to the north to prevent the convoy from having to stop en route, he explained.
