UPDATE: possible 2nd accused in kidnapping case

'Kidnapping victim' currently being held in the Polokwane holding cells.

POLOKWANE – 29-year-old Berdine Jordaan appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday 1 August on the charges of perjury, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

State Prosecutor, Madelein Roelofse, asked the court for a remand saying the state would need more information for their case.

She told the court more charges would be brought against the accused and that a second accused would soon be linked to the case.

She is currently being held in the Polokwane holding cells.

Jordaan was arrested on Wednesday after a police investigation led authorities to Musina where she, her 5-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old girl were found hiding in a cupboard in a house said Provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

“The 29-year-old alleged victim was questioned and it was discovered that she was the one who kidnapped the 14-year-old girl, the reason is still unclear.”

She will apply for bail on 8 August.


 

SUNDAY 31 JULY

POLOKWANE –  The 29-year-old ‘kidnapping victim’ has been arrested and is to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Monday 1 August).

Provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke reported: “We received information from the victim’s husband in Polokwane that his 29- year-old wife, daughter (5) and a 14-year-old girl were kidnapped by unknown people in Ladanna on Wednesday 27 July.”

“As the investigation continued, it led the police to a certain house in Musina. The house was searched and the three alleged victims were found hiding in the cupboard. The 29-year-old alleged victim was questioned and it was discovered that there was no kidnapping, instead she was the one who kidnapped a 14-year-old girl, the reason is still unclear..”

She was then arrested and is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Monday the 01 of August 2016 on the charges of perjury, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice he concluded.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto all three were found in a family member’s house in Musina.

According to Westenburg police spokesperson Const Manamela the woman and two children have been found and are safe.

Westenburg police spokesperson Const Manamela confirmed that police are still following up on leads. No vehicle has been found as reported earlier.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating an attempted kidnapping of 3 people in Ladanna around 12:30 today (Wednesday).

According to police information the black BMW in question had no number plates, and cannot confirm the whereabouts of the vehicle at this stage.

Information around the kidnapping is still at a sensitive stage.
