Police call on residents to help identify hit-and-run victim

Mankweng police are looking for the family of an unidentified man who was found dead on the side of the road on Sunday, 31 July.

POLOKWANE –  The body of an African man with a grey beard and grey hair was found along the Ga-Molepo tar road next to the Rampheri Dam after he was allegedly knocked down by a motorist.
Const Mosima Makgaba from the Mankweng Police stated that the man was found by a passerby in the early hours of Sunday morning. “He did not have any visible wounds that indicate foul play.
“It is now speculated that he was knocked down by a vehicle which fled the scene after the accident, but investigations are still ongoing,” said Makgaba.
According to police, the man was wearing black trousers, a black jacket with a grey coat and black shoes. His identity is unknown and the police appeal to the community to help in identifying the deceased and contacting his family.
Mankweng police appeal to motorists who use the R71 to keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially between Nobody Mathibaskraal and Boyne.
They urge pedestrians to wear bright, visible clothes at night, and cross the road only when it is safe to do so.
Anyone who can help to identify the deceased should contact Detective Captain Molepo at 079 151 9414 or the Mankweng Police Station at (015) 286 2000.
