Mad Hatter’s chari’tea’ fun raises R30 000 for Imke

HAENERTSBURG – More than R30 000 was raised for little Imke Geldenhuys from Tzaneen who is battling an aggressive cancer during a fun-filled and colourful function, titled Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, at the Magoebaskloof Hotel on Saturday.

The thought to join the country in raising funds for this child’s ongoing treatment began at an informal meeting at The Red Plate, Colleen Venter’s restaurant in the village.

There were raffle tickets, silent auctions and prizes that included indigenous trees and shrubs, a stay at an upmarket game lodge and a prize for best dressed. The resounding clap and wolf whistles for best dressed went to Rowena, aka Mr Ruaan Coetzee. The man was almost unrecognisable. He looked like a heavily-busted lass with sturdy shaved legs tottering on wedge-heeled shoes.

The speeches were succinct and fitting for the reason behind this fundraiser with Mariesa Coetzee as MC.

Jennifer Harman explained the fabulous game lodge with all the extras on auction and Donny van Wyk, who donated his impressive artwork, explained the medium used and the symbolism in his art. There was so much food left over that everyone was invited to take some home and the rest was given to the elderly at the Haenertsburg Garden Cottages. The children were allowed to take home the decorations.

Head honcho, Colleen Venter, together with her slick team as well as the manager of the hotel offered adults and children alike a fun-filled day all for a good cause.
