‘Success is just calculation’

Local businessman, Lutendo Lot Magosha's humble background motivated him to strive for greatness

LIMPOPO – At 30 years old, this University of Venda (Univen) graduate is the proud founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HillCity Group, a company that offers financial advice as well as support with corporate finance, consulting and stock markets.

Magosha’s Gr 12 results were impressive enough to ensure his acceptance to Univen where he studied toward a B.Com accounting degree.

“Studying commerce was not my first choice, but I immediately took a liking to it after my first lecture. It sparked a passion in me that is still alive today. My first year at university was an adjustment for me but it’s like that for most students. It was tough in the beginning but I acclimated to my surroundings and focused on my studies and that is how I managed to pass with flying colours,” he explains.

Magosha says after university, he worked for different companies with the sole purpose of gaining experience, including popular cinematic agencies.

I took a chance and applied for a job in California in the US where I did auditing for different companies including investment and manufacturing companies.

Magosha was born in Mamuhoi in Nzhelele, a village outside Thohoyandou, and he says he feels he has a responsibility toward the community. “I have championed a programme through my company, we offer business coaching for small businesses on a radio show on Phalaphala FM once every week. I also mentor and tutor students at tertiary level. I do what I can to help others become successful,” says Magosha.

Magosha has come along way since his days at university and has a lot to show for it. Not only does he run his own company and mentor the youth, he is also the Group CEO of an investment firm in Johannesburg. “The objective is to provide professional support to small businesses; to create a platform for the transfer of skills and to provide under-privileged people with skills to help them make something of themselves,” he explains.

According to Magosha, his success is not measured by his own achievements but how much he does for others.
