POLOKWANE – The SABC is yet to respond to Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s (Icasa) ruling that the public broadcaster must withdraw its decision not to broadcast violent protests.
The SABC’s decision not to broadcast violent protests was met with outrage not only from the public, but journalists.
SABC Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, says the SABC has written to Icasa over the last week, but could not comment further as they are still in litigation.
The Helen Suzman Foundation recently obtained an interdict in the High Court in Pretoria preventing the SABC from continuing to censor coverage of protests.
“We are busy in court against the Helen Suzman Foundation today, so I can’t comment on the Icasa reply yet,” says Kganyago.
