Paledi Mall shoppers urged to be vigilant

The Mankweng Police recently launched a crime awareness campaign at Paledi Mall after reports of numerous theft cases at the shopping centre

POLOKWANE – During the campaign, the community received safety tips from the police, and were urged to be extra vigilant while at the mall.

Mankweng Police Spokesperson, Const Mosima Makgaba, said: “we embarked on this campaign to alert the community about the crime taking place at the mall. Most of the time, the thieves would make off with people’s belongings and we felt a need to inform the community know about these crimes and give them tips on how they can avoid becoming the target of criminal elements”.

According to Makgaba, crime was usually rife at the mall during month end and the first few days of the month, and that people who received their SASSA grants often fell victim to these criminals.

“I would like to urge people to be aware of their surroundings and to not leave their belongings with strangers. We urge people to refrain from carrying too much cash with them and that they should rather do electronic fund transfers whenever possible to reduce the chances of them falling victim to criminals.

“Also keep an eye out for people impersonating police officers, it is your right to ask an officer for their identification and badge number at all times and to confirm that they are police officers with the police station,” concluded Makgaba.
