‘Police officers’ rob truck driver on the N1

Two suspects in a marked police vehicle robbed a truck driver this morning (Friday) on the N1 South just outside Mokopane

LIMPOPO – Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, said the truck driver was en route to Gauteng from Polokwane when he was approached by two “police officers” in a white marked sedan.

“Their blue lights were on and so he pulled off the road and stopped. He was then approached by the two men, not in police uniform, and pulled from the truck. They assaulted him, pointed a firearm at him and tied him against a tree next to Weenen Combined School. The men fled with two cell phones, his wallet and R4 000 cash,” said Masingi.

“According to the complainant, there was another red sedan on the scene, but he couldn’t see its number plates or the driver. The victim also stated that the white sedan had no number plates.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
