The police strongly condemn these actions and appeal to the community not to take the law into their own hands.

LIMPOPO – The parents’ house of one of the two suspects who were arrested for the possession of human body parts and who were linked to the murder of an unidentified woman whose headless burned body was found under a bridge in Mapela, was set alight on Sunday.

Mahwelereng Police Spokesperson, Const Sello Leso, reported: “Edward Raatji’s parents’ house in Mapela village outside of Mokopane was torched on Sunday. No arrests have been made yet and investigations are ongoing”.

Leso further said: “We believe it is members of the community expressing their anger towards the suspect”.

The police strongly condemn these actions and appeal to the community not to take the law into their own hands.

Matsobane Stanley Mohlake (33) and Raatji (50) were arrested on 10 July after the police followed up on a lead about people selling human body parts near the taxi rank in Polokwane.

The police stopped and searched the suspects’ vehicle in which they found the head of a woman wrapped in a newspaper.

The headless burned body of a woman was discovered on 11 July in Mapela after the police followed up on information received.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto reported: “We are waiting for the DNA results to help with the identification of the victim”.

Mohlake and Raatji appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the possession of human body parts and the case was postponed to 21 July for bail application. The men appeared in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court last Friday on a charge of murder. The case was postponed to Wednesday where Mohlake withdrew his bail application. Raatji’s bail application was again postponed to 27 July.
