Disabled parking bay occupied by SBV van

If you don't have a disc, you are simply not allowed to use these parking spaces.

POLOKWANE – An SBV cash delivery van parked in a disabled parking bay at Thornhill Shopping Centre had shoppers very upset last week.

They contacted the centre’s management as well as Review to complain.

“I am aware of the situation and told the driver it is not acceptable. SBV also promised me this will not happen again,” Koerie Muller, General Manager of Thornhill Shopping Centre, told Review.

Happy Phasha, Chief Protection Officer of SBV promised a meeting would be held with the company’s drivers in terms of what is allowed and what isn’t. “They know they are not allowed to park in disabled parking spots, not even for a quick drop-off. We will investigate the matter.”

Maria Thom, Social Work Manager at The Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) said motorists who need to park in disabled parking spaces, need to get a parking disc from the association.

“People must comply with certain requirements to obtain a permit. If you don’t have a disc, you are simply not allowed to use these parking spaces.”
