Rotary Club of Polokwane warm the hearts at TLC

As people and companies around South Africa continue to pledge their 67 minutes for Mandela Day, the Rotary Club of Polokwane was not to be left behind...

POLOKWANE – The club donated 50 blankets to the Pediatric Oncology Ward also known as Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) at the Pietersburg Hospital.

Charles Hardy from the Rotary Club of Polokwane had this to say. “We got the idea from Dr Wedi when he alerted us that there are children in the ward who are in need of blankets. It is winter and it gets very cold so that is why we decided to step in and assist,” Hardy explained.

According to Dr Oloko Wedi, the Head of the pediatric oncology ward, most of the children are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Dr Wedi, a member of the Rotary club of Polokwane, came up with a plan that would make the children’s stay a little easier.

“We have a 29 bed ward and most of the time the ward is filled to capacity. I noticed that the children needed support from the community and that’s when I decided to involve my fellow Rotarians. We decided to donate blankets to them as our way of giving back,” Wedi said.

Bobby Were a facilitator at TLC was extremely grateful with their kind gesture. “I am extremely thankful for what the Rotary club of Polokwane have done for us. We are very happy and grateful as well,” Were concluded.
