DA donates to disabled children

When he was 10 years old, Rito Makhuvhele (17) was forced to drop out of school as he was unable to move around without assistance

LIMPOPO – Born disabled, Rito was forced to drop out of Fulufhelo Special School in Thohoyandou, as there was no one to carry him to school and back home.

After the DA representative in Masia village near Makhado heard of Rito’s story, he quickly informed DA Member of Parliament, Solly Malatsi.

The DA soon donated a wheelchair to Rito.

“Now I will sleep peacefully knowing that my son has finally received a wheelchair which will enable him to move around on his own,” said Rito’s father, Steven Makhuvhele.

“I would like to thank the DA who made it possible for my son to finally own a wheelchair,” said Steven. Before Rito received a wheelchair, Steven used to cart him around the village in a wheelbarrow.

“It used to hurt me having to use a wheelbarrow to take my son to the toilet all the time. No one has ever done something this special for us,” said Steven.

Steven further said he planed to take his son back to school next year. The DA has since donated a total of six wheelchairs to disabled residents in Masia and Mangilasi villages.

“We have donated wheelchairs as we are caring leaders who were touched by the plight of vulnerable residents,” said Malatsi.

“We are doing our bit to improve the lives of our fellow disabled residents and we are still going to donate more to those in need,” he said.
