Police allegedly fire rubber bullets during N11 protest

Residents from Mountain View Village blocked off the N11 this morning (Monday). Drivers are warned to be cautious when traveling in the area.

LIMPOPO – More than a 100 residents from Mountain View Village outside of Mokopane blocked off the N11 this morning (Monday) with burning tyres and rocks in protest against lack of service delivery in the area.

The residents further say they will not vote on 3 August.

Mpho Kekana and Portia Seretlwa, residents of Mountain View Village say they do not have clean water and that this issue has been previously addressed with officials from the Mogalakwena Municipality. “Our plea for water have fallen on deaf ears.”

According to Seretlwa the police fired rubber bullets at the group of people and four of them were injured and taken to the Mokopane Hospital.”

Mahwelereng Police Spokesperson, Constable Sello Leso, said: “No report with regards to the firing of rubber bullets have of yet been filed. Investigations are ongoing.”

The road is now open and police are monitoring the scene.
