The Office of the Public Protector cares

Since 1994, after the birth of the democratic government, people's constitutional rights became familiar to most South Africans and were received with joy and honour

POLOKWANE – The Office of the Public Protector is one of the chapter nine institutions found in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and one of its constitutional obligations is to be accessible to all communities.

The Office of the Public Protector in Limpopo moves through the community with pride as it has enough newsletters and brochures to distribute to the communities when conducting outreach activities.

The outreach unit meets different people with different disabilities. Thankfully, the unit is now able to distribute brochures in braille, which they feel is a significant move to cater to all people so that everyone, including the blind and the visually impaired, can enjoy reading the public protector’s mandate.

The office commits itself to visiting centres for people with disabilities because this sector of the community is one of those whose rights are trampled on due to their physical condition, as many people have less regard for disabled communities.

As a provincial office we applaud the public protector for providing braille material to the people of Limpopo and South Africa at large with limited resources.

Limpopo has many centres for people who need braille material and the Public Protector’s would therefore like to make a call to communities to contact their office in case they need the braille material as it is possible that we may have overlooked some areas.

Although we have limited material which is to be distributed to areas where there is a serious need first, the outreach unit is always on the move with the material when they travel to local communities to conduct their outreach activities.

The office of the public protector in Limpopo has a provincial office in Polokwane and a regional office in Musina.

The provincial office is located at 18A Landdros Maré Street and you can reach a representative at (015) 295 5712. While the regional office in Musina is there to help people in the Vhembe area; people in the Capricorn District and other districts can contact the Vehembe representative, Cedric Nemaendzhe (Regional Manager), at 071 461 0483 or visit the offices at Viljays Centre, 1 Hans van Der Merwe Avenue in Musina Ext 1.
