A 53-year-old resident from De Wet Drive in Ster Park is in a stable condition in hospital after allegedly being shot at close range in the stomach by four armed robbers in his house last night (Thursday).
Polokwane Police Spokesperson Ntobeng Phala informed that the resident reportedly returned home just after 19:00 when he was approached by four armed men wearing balaclavas.
“The victim opened the gate to his homestead with the remote control and while still waiting for the gate to open completely the robbers approached his vehicle and pointed him with firearms. They allegedly demanded the resident to emerge from the vehicle but he refused after which the attackers used a brick or stone to try and break the vehicle’s window,” Phala said.
He added that the robbers then allegedly fired three shots into the window forcing the victim to open the door. “They dragged him into the house where they also met the nanny. Both victims were taken to the main bedroom where the robbers demanded cash while ransacking the room and rest of the house,” Phala said.
It is purported that when the robbers discovered that there was no safe in the house they demanded bank cards and PIN codes. “They shot the house owner in the stomach and left him for dead. The nanny indicated that when they left the house she noticed a fifth suspect waiting in a white vehicle in which they fled,” Phala said.
Bank cards and jewellery were robbed and according to Phala it is not clear what type of vehicle were used as getaway car.
