Serala murder case continues

Alex Simon Chauke (25), arrested after the murder of 30-year-old Ignat Oosthuizen on 5 May 2015, faced another day in court yesterday (13 July).

POLOKWANE – Yesterday, police and forensic specialists testified on fingerprints that put police on the trail of the Chauke, who had in the meantime been linked to other burglaries.

Oosthuizen and his wife, Simoné (26), were stabbed with a sharp object during the burglary in their home in Serala View in the early morning hours.

Oosthuizen, however, sustained injuries to his neck that were fatal.

This incident was reportedly the third attempted burglary at the couple’s house since November 2014.

Nothing but two cell phones were stolen during the robbery.

“He is one of the most wanted criminals in Polokwane and we positively linked him to three other cases by his fingerprints,” Phala said.

Simoné testified in the Seshego Regional Court on Tuesday, giving a tearful account of the events that took the life of her husband. Speaking to Review, she said she hoped the man responsible for her husband’s death will pay for the crime.
The case was postponed to 9 September.

Alex Simon Chauke re-appeared in court this week for the murder of Ignat Oosthuizen in Serala View last year.
