A 32-year-old man was sentenced to a life behind bars on Monday in the Mokerong Magistrate's Court for the rape and murder of a woman (31) and the murder of her 6-month-old son.

LIMPOPO – Mahwelereng Police Spokesperson, Const Sello Leso reported: “Klaas Matlou was arrested last year by Tinmyne Police in connection with the murder and rape of Annah Ramokone Tselane and the murder of her son Mahlatse Johannes on 30 August. The bodies of the victims were found in their house in Rantlakane in Mohlakaneng village.

“Matlou fled the scene, but after a thorough investigation by Detective W/O Rasemate Frans Ngobeni, he was shortly arrested thereafter.”

Matlou escaped from the holding cells in Tinmyne, but he was rearrested the same day thanks to the assistance of local farmers and escaping from lawful custody was added to his charges.

The Mokerong Magistrate’s Court found Matlou guilty on two charges of murder for which he was given two life sentences. He was also found guilty of rape and escape from lawful custody which added 25 years to his sentence.

“As Tinmyne police we rejoice in the outcome of this case. Let this be a stern warning to all perpetrators that we will not rest until all criminals are behind bars. The safety of our people is of high priority to us,” Leso stated.
