EFF accuses company of not helping locals

Members of the EFF in Mopani recently protested outside the premises of a civils contracting company in Giyani

LIMPOPO – According to party members, the company that has been contracted to supply water to the Greater Giyani Municipality, hires workers from outside the area.

“We have a problem with the construction company as they hire people from Gauteng and other provinces.

“Skilled workers can be hired from anywhere, but unskilled workers should be used from this area,” said Vusi Manganyi, EFF Regional Organiser in Mopani.

The director of the civils company confirmed to Capricorn Voice that he had received a memorandum in February and had appointed an HR officer three months ago, subsequently they have employed a large number of people from the area.

“We have 680 employees, a combination of skilled and unskilled, and out of those, 532 are from the local community,” he said.

He added that the company valued people around the community of Giyani and that for the past three years they have been assisting schools with furniture and renovations as part of community social investment.

Approached for comment, Mbhoni Zitha, Chairperson of the ANCYL sub-region, remarked that they were in disagreement with what the EFF was doing on the site.

“We are here to stop these counter-revolutionaries who are trying to stop the great work of this company, who has been contracted by Lepelle Northern Water.

“The EFF wants to stop service delivery by bringing up petty issues that this contractor is not employing locals. We believe that the company has implemented that. Our role here is to safe-guard the revolution and the interests of the Giyani people,” said Zitha.
