Bail denied for robber, rapist

Police said the suspect moved to another house in Stadium View that same morning, where he robbed a family of their car, cash and bank cards at gunpoint

LIMPOPO – A 24-year-old man facing charges of rape, house robbery and armed robbery was denied bail when he appeared before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court for formal bail application last Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, Brian Ndlovu was kept in custody for further investigations and is expected to reappear in court on 20 September.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested on 17 June after he pounced on two women in their house in Tafelkop at 01:00, pointed a firearm at them and raped one of the women.

Police said the suspect moved to another house in Stadium View that same morning, where he robbed a family of their car, cash and bank cards at gunpoint.

Motetema Police Spokesperson, Const Boitumelo Matlala, said the suspect drove off with the family’s vehicle, a Toyota Avanza, and further robbed a woman who was on her way to work at around 05:00 that morning. He stole her handbag and all the money she had on her.

“Police were alerted and through quick response, the suspect, who is from Nyakelang section in Tafelkop, was arrested in Stadium View on the same day the robberies took place. Police recovered the stolen vehicle, cash and belongings of the victims during the arrest. It was discovered that the firearm he used to scare his victims was a toy gun,” added Matlala.

Matlala said the suspect was arrested and charged with rape, house robbery and armed robbery.
