Residents urged to use electricity sparingly to avoid unplanned outages

The electricity system remains vulnerable as Eskom works to rebuild one of the supply lines to the Alpha Substation in the city, warns the municipality.

POLOKWANE – On Monday the municipality received an alert from Eskom for consumers to use electricity sparingly to avoid unplanned outages as a result of maintenance work being conducted on this lines says municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo.

The maintenance work will take effect from today (Monday) until the 15 July 2016.

“The municipality prepared its 66kV switching last night to accommodate Eskom’s load requirement. However, the system remains vulnerable to risks of trips if electricity is not used sparingly during this period due to the unstable situation,” said Mothapo.

Consumers are therefore alerted of the situation and encouraged to use electricity wisely during this period adds Mothapo.

All unused electrical appliances should be switched off.
