Samuel Matjila, granted bail

Samuel Matjila, a well-known taxi owner, was granted R10 000 bail today in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of Danny Baloyi in 2004.

MOKOPANE -Baloyi was shot and killed on 13 August 2004 in Ga-Madiba Village.

However, Matjila remains behind bars as he is also a suspect in the Charles Mgidi murder trial.  Mgidi was shot and killed in front of a filling station on 4 April 2015 in Mokopane.

Matjila, Desmond Machaba and Patrick Sekhu were arrested in connection with Mgidi’s murder.  On 17 April 2015 Matjila, Sekhu and Machaba were denied of bail in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court.

A reliable source is of the meaning that Matjila will try and use the granting of today’s (Friday) bail application to his benefit in the Mgidi trial.

Spokesperson for the Mahwelereng Police Station, Constable Sello Leso, said: “The date for the next appearance of Matjila and Samuel Tshilambamvhau (co-accused in the Baloyi case) is still to be confirmed. Tshilambamvhau was granted R3 000 bail in his first appearance earlier in March.

The Migidi trial is set for the week of 31 October in the Polokwane High Court.
