4 arrested in separate incidents for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the arrests of 4 suspects on Tuesday who were found to be in the possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition.

LIMPOPO – “Armed robberies are definitely one of the problematic crimes in the province and the removal of fire arms as well as the arrests of the suspects are a clear indication that the police in the province are serious about preventing and reducing this crime” he said.

2 suspects from Atteridgeville, were arrested in the Thabazimbi area after visible policing members followed up on information received about a planned robbery at a supermarket in the central business district.

“They followed up and arrested the two suspects in a open field behind the store on Tuesday. Two 9mm fire arms and 14 rounds of ammunition, 3 pairs of gloves and a bolt cutter were confiscated,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

Investigations to link the suspects to similar crimes in the province are ongoing, Otto added.

Another two suspects aged 19 and 26 were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed fire arm, ammunition and suspected stolen property at a house in Ga Mothapo, Mankweng.

“A 9mm firearm, crow bar, bolt cutter, cell phones, several household goods and even a small coffin were found in their possession.”

Investigations to link them to cases of armed robbery and housebreaking in the area are ongoing concluded Otto.

Ledwaba further urged members of the community not to buy stolen goods just because they are offered at a cheaper price as it contributes to crimes such as robbery and housebreaking.
