ANC pays tribute to Matshoge

The memorial service for the late MEC for Agriculture, Joy Matshoge is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 29 June at The Jack Botes Hall.

POLOKWANE – Matshoge was killed in a car accident on the N1 between Mokopane and Mookgophong on Saturday evening.

It was reported that she was travelling alone when she allegedly lost control of the car after a tyre burst, reported Citizen.

Matshoge was also the chairperson of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in Limpopo.

According to a statement from ANCWL, the league has lost one of its first line of defence of the rights of the women of South Africa.

Cde Joy was [a] fearless, yet humble, leader of our movement. At all times she upheld the principles of democratic centralism and worked tirelessly to build a progressive, united ANCWL. Her untimely death has robbed us a disciplined, dedicated cadre of our revolution.

The ANC party caucus said it was also saddened by Matshoge’s passing.

“The office of the Chief Whip in the Limpopo Legislature is saddened by the news of the death of Joy Matshoge. Matshoge was a seasoned member of the provincial legislature who served in numerous portfolios, and her death has created a void in Premier Stan Mathabatha’s cabinet, and various ANC Structures that she served in.

“We would like to send messages of condolences to her family, friends and comrades, and the people of Limpopo at large for this immense loss  of a servant of the people.”

In a statement, the ANC Limpopo, said Matshoge passed away at a critical period for the ANC.

“She was a committed member of the ANC who played a critical role in the struggle for gender equality. Her death comes in the week that the dedicated PEC elections programme is focussed on her home region of Waterberg. In her honour, memory and spirit, the PEC will continue with all the elections programme activities in Waterberg,” read the statement.

“May her soul rest in peace.”

The memorial services for the late MEC for Agriculture, Joy Matshoge are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 29 June at The Jack Botes Hall and at the Ephraim Mogale Stadium in Phagameng on Thursday.
