Swift action by police leads to arrest of 2

Two suspects were arrested in Parakisi Village in Mapela today (Friday) on charges of carjacking and the possession of an unregistered  firearm

MOKOPANE  – According to provincial police spokesperson, Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects, aged 20 and 36, hijacked a vehicle which was transporting cigarettes to the estimated value of R100 000.

The driver was hijacked at gunpoint. The suspects then drove to a certain spot where they offloaded all the cigarettes into their vehicle and fled,” said Ngoepe.

“The police sprang into action and managed to arrest two of the three suspects. The hijacked vehicle and the suspects’ vehicle, along with the stolen cigarettes and one firearm were recovered.”

The suspects will appear in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mahwelereng on Monday on charges of carjacking and the possession of a firearm without a license.

A thorough search for the third suspect is ongoing, concluded Ngoepe.
