Sekgosese infrastructure takes priority in coming financial year

She said government was aware of how poor the state of the road was connecting the wholesale business centre to other parts of Sekgosese

LIMPOPO – The MEC for corporative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs Limpopo (Coghsta), Makoma Makhurupetje, says the Sekgosese area will be prioritised in terms of housing and road infrastructure during this financial year.

She said government was aware of how poor the state of the road was connecting the wholesale business centre to other parts of Sekgosese.

Makhurupetje said besides the road’s infrastructure, there were other challenges the area faced such as the lack of adequate water supply, especially to the Ga-Phooko villages.

The department will work closely with traditional leaders in Sekgosese to ensure the area received proper service delivery.

She said during the past financial year 2015/16 the department, with the Greater Letaba Municipality, had made enormous progress in the provision of houses as part of the rural housing programme.

She said during this financial year, Greater Letaba will receive an allocation of no less than 500 housing units and priority will be given to the Sekgosese area.

“We started working on a process of unblocking six abandoned houses in the area as part of our rural rectification programme,” says Makhurupetje.

The houses were abandoned by contractors in the year 2000. She explains that apart from the houses, they are in the process of upgrading two roads from gravel to tar. One of these roads will connect the wholesale business area to Morebeng (Soekmekaar). Phase two of the project will link the wholesale business area to Chachama. Road Agency Limpopo is presently conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment.
