Young Rhulani desparetely needs your help

The last time she took him for treatment was early this year, where he was treated in Pretoria

POLOKWANE – It is every child’s dream to go to school and become a teacher or a doctor, but in this case, little Rhulani Makalapa (4) might not see his dream materialise.

Rhulani from Ga-Masemola in Sekhukhune district has been living with glaucoma (a disease that affects the eye’s optic nerves) for four years.

He desperately needs treatment in his right eye at a cost of approximately R20 000 for a cornea transplant.

According to his mother, Zola Makalapa (28), they have done a lot to raise money.

“We have done all we could to try and raise the money needed for the procedure, but we are struggling to meet the required amount. We can no longer even afford to take him to a local doctor as this has put a strain on our finances,” says Makalapa.

She says the last time she took him for treatment was early this year where he was treated in Pretoria.

“His left eye was operated on a while ago and got better, but unfortunately his right eye started showing signs of cancer and for the procedure to be done, we need R20 000,” she says.

“We wish someone could assist. We have tried everything we could to try and raise the money. Help from anyone will be appreciated,” she says.

Makalapa says on warmer days her son’s eye is more painful than on other days.

“I love my son and I want to see him going to school like other children. He asked me when he could go to school with his friends. His questions break my heart because I don’t know what to tell him anymore,” she said.

Those willing to assist Rhulani can contact Rhulani’s grandmother, Selina Makalapa at 079 836 1401.
