Local neurologist assaulted and left next to the road

Dr Ahmed Abdul Sattar became part of the rising crime statistic in the city when he was the victim of a carjacking and robbery over the weekend.

POLOKWANE – Sattar, a neurologist in the city, was subjected to the horrible ordeal of being hijacked on Friday evening which carried on until the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Westenburg Police Spokesperson, Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, the victim had just arrived at his home in the Ivydale area when he was approached by five armed men as he opened the gate to the property.

The armed men him into his vehicle after which they drove around with him for several hours.

The suspects tied Sattar up with his belt, assaulted him and then left him on the side of the road on the N1 Southbound.

His vehicle, a white Porsche, was later recovered after the suspects abandoned it along the N1.

“The victim was treated for several minor injuries. No arrests have been made as yet and we are investigating a case of carjacking. We urge anyone with information to contact the Westenburg Police Station on (015) 292 9415/10 or on 082 565 8566,” Mashiane said.

According to police, the suspects made off with a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money.

Sattar did not wish to comment on the incident, however, it was confirmed that he was back at his office and treating patients.
