Basic Education to send support team to Limpopo

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will be sending a support team to assist the Department of Education in Limpopo and two other provinces with issues such as poor curriculum outcomes, weak administration, poor matric results and financial mismanagement.
This was confirmed by Elijah Mhlanga, Spokesperson of the DBE.
The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga will be sending a team of experts to three struggling provinces which also include the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
The team of experts will comprise experts from other provinces seconded to assist the provinces struggling with issues such as poor curriculum outcomes, weak administration, poor matric results and financial mismanagement.
“The Minister is still assembling the team and finalising the scope of work and the nature of intervention,” Mhlanga said.
He said the MEC for Education, Ishmael Kgetjepe and the HOD Beauty Mutheiwana is doing a good job in Limpopo and sending regular reports to the DBE, but there are areas needing support.
When asked Naledzani Rasila, Head of Communications of the Department of Education said he does not know about the team but has been out of office since Monday as the department is busy with a strategic planning session.
The department was placed under administration from December 2011 to January 2015 and then again, later the same year, the department was placed under Section 18 (2) (g) and (i) of the Public Finance Management Act and a team from Provincial Treasury and the Premier’s office was seconded to assist the struggling department to turn around supply chain management, governance, financial management, records and assets management.
