‘Kidnapper’ released on bail for the 3rd time

One of the suspects in the kidnapping case of Anisah Moosa has been arrested and released on bail for a third time

POLOKWANE – Masilo Gafane was re-arrested last week on a charge of theft by false pretense, and released on R1 000 bail by the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court.

Gafane, along with another suspect, Samuel Kobo were arrested on 24 May on a charge of armed robbery and granted R5 000 bail each by the Sekhukhune Magistrates Court.

The two along with the third suspect, Benny Mudau were released on R10 000 bail each by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in May following the abduction of Moosa on 15 March.

According to the Moosa spokesperson, Yusuf Abramjee, the family has asked the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to appeal the bail decision in all three cases, and have also written to the ministry of justice, of police, to the acting police commissioner, as well as to the director of public prosecutions urging immediate intervention.

Abramjee says the release of Gafane for the third time on bail is a serious indictment on the justice system.

“The family feels that the justice system in letting victims down badly. We are shocked at the release of Gafane,” says Abramjee.
