Gogo’s dying wish: I want to see my kids

An ill and mentally unstable 86-year-old granny wishes to meet her children, whom she last saw a decade ago, before she dies.

LIMPOPO – A social worker has been trying to reunite Alleta Moeng with her children for years, but without success.

Moeng, who hails from Randfontein in Gauteng came to Limpopo to do domestic work for a construction company that was responsible for building the Matatshe Prison in 1979.

After she lost her job, Moeng never returned to Gauteng where she had left her children.

The social worker who has been taking care of the gogo, Peggy Mulaudzi, says her attempts to reunite Moeng with her children have been unsuccessful.

“I have been trying to reunite her with her children in Gauteng, but all the call I get from people who claim to know her has been false”.

Moeng had five children in Gauteng, whom she claims were all grown up at the time she left.

After she lost her job as a domestic worker, she moved around the Vhembe area doing mostly part time work, mainly as a domestic worker before she fell sick and was no longer able to work.

“When I found her she couldn’t even talk and had not collected an old age grant. She did not even have an ID,” says Mulaudzi.

Moeng only received her first ID last year after the Department of Home Affairs had intervened with the assistance of Thulamela Mayor, Grace Mahosi.

Moeng is currently in an old age home in the Vhembe area where she is cared for by Mulaudzi.

“She tells me the only thing she wishes for before she dies, is to meet her children so she can apologise for abandoning them years ago,” Mulaudzi said.

The social worker pleads with anyone who might have information that can help reunite Moeng with her family to contact her on 072 0769 135.
