Peaceful protest in Mopani

More than 250 Early Childhood Development Programme School principals, led by the Golang-Kulani Early Childhood Development Association in the Mopani area marched to the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Friday protesting against the abuse of the rights of women and children.

LIMPOPO – The group consisted of representatives from the Greater Tzaneen, Letaba and Maruleng municipalities.

The development association is a non-profit organisation which was established in 1992 as a training organisation for early childhood development practitioners, communities and businesses.

According to the Programme Manager, Polivia Moremi, the aim of the march was to hand over a memorandum of grievances to the magistrate.

Moremi explains that the protesters called on the police and the justice system to take serious action against people who abuse the rights of women and children and that the abuse cycle needs to be broken.

The memorandum was handed over to the representative of the Tzaneen Chief Magistrate, Hasani Mutarini who promised the demands will be resolved within the stipulated time frame.

Moremi explained the office of the magistrate has been given seven days to respond. The protesters dispersed peacefully.
