4 suspects arrested a week after violent Northam protests

Northam police arrested 4 suspects in connection with the public violence and malicious damage to property during the protest action at the boomgate of the Zondereinde mine on June 6, during an operation on Monday night.

LIMPOPO – The ages of the suspects range from between 41-52 years old.

“One of the four was also arrested for the murder of 52-year-old Thembinkosi Mhlabeni who was stabbed to death during the protests,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

“The investigation into the shooting and killing of 45-year-old Mthetheleli Zefunele, who was murdered on Sunday June 5 at a hiking spot in Northam  is still ongoing added Otto.

“During the process of investigation people are taken in for questioning but no formal arrests have yet been made.”

The suspects are due to appear in the Northam Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Wednesday).
