Missing student calls home

"The situation does not sit well with me," said the mother of the 23-year-old University of Limpopo student who went missing on June 1.

POLOKWANE – The Mankweng police are still looking for 23-year-old University of Limpopo student, Yandisa Mhlwana, after she went missing on Wednesday 1 June and has not been seen since.

Her father alleged that he went to the university with his daughter on 1 June to check her school results and performance. According her father, Watson Mhlwana, he went to the university with his daughter on 1 June to check her school results and performance. “While they were waiting for the offices to open, Yandisa just disappeared,” he said

Constable Mosima Makgaba confirmed that they have indeed been searching for her. “There have been no leads in the case thus far. We have been asking her friends and people who knew her at the university but so far we haven’t had any luck finding her or getting a solid lead,” Makgaba explained.

Yandisa’s mother, Nompumelelo Mhlwana says they hope for their daughter’s safe return. “The situation does not sit well with me. The fact that I don’t know where my daughter is, has been a terrible experience for me. When she first went missing, someone said they spotted her at the Polokwane taxi rank and we immediately alerted the police. A while after that her brother then received a call from her but she called from a private number. She told him that she was okay and that we shouldn’t worry. I will not be convinced that my daughter is all right until I see her with my own two eyes. I am really worried but I will keep praying for her safe return,” said Mhlwana. Her father says they will hold on to the hope of finding their daughter. “As a family, what has happened to us is really bad but we hope and pray that she returns to us. We don’t know what situation she is in or what has happened to her.”

Yandisa left her cellphone in her father’s car. She was last seen wearing a black and white skirt with a white vest and a blue denim jacket. Anyone with information about her whereabouts can contact warrant officer Phalakatshela on 076 842 6820 or 015 286 2000 or Constable Mosima Makgaba 082 729 1761 or 015 286 2081.
