FF+ lays charges against vandals

Two men were arrested last Thursday by Special Operations Solutions (SOS) on a charge of removing, defacing and damaging the posters of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+).

MOKOPANE – Head Organiser of the Freedom Front Plus in Limpopo, Marcelle Maritz, told Bosveld: “This is not the first time that we have caught people in the act of stealing or defacing our posters. I hereby give a stern warning to the community that the defacing, damaging or removal of any election material is a serious criminal offence. Section 91 of Chapter 7 is explicit in the prohibitions concerning voting and election material.”

Stealing a campaign sign is not only stepping on someone’s rights to free speech, it’s petty theft and could come with jail time and a hefty fine.

“If you don’t agree with a candidate or party, don’t deface their material. Use the most powerful weapon at your disposal to say so, use your vote,” Maritz strongly concluded.

Maritz expressed her gratitude towards the resident who reported the removal of their posters and towards SOS for their quick action.
